Christmas 2019 is getting closer and closer every day. Today, on the 8th December, in Italy it is the day families gather to prepare the house for the imminent holidays. I remember this time of the year being very magical with lots of expectations and excitement. Surely it is during this period that I started to experiment with interior decorations and flower compositions.
In this blog post, I aim to guide you with some practical inspiration to create your own Christmas decorations with very simple materials and seasonal flowers, that can be sourced at your local florist.
Let's look together at some simple flower arrangements that you can do by yourself at home together with your family.
One of the easiest yet very beautiful and evocative Christmas decorations for me is: hyacinths in vases. It is very quick and simple to prepare and very "budget friendly". If you buy all the materials and compose the vases by yourself instead by buying them already made, you will end up saving lots of money...and it is a lot more fun too!
All you need to do is to head to your local florist and get the following materials:
hyacinths bulbs (they usually have white, pink, blue or purple flowers),
vases for plants in different sizes,
green and white moss,
The first step is to set the hyacinths into your vases with a mix of white and green moss. If the hyacinths are too short for the vases, use some of the green moss underneath the bulbs to create a sort of platform.
Once you have insert the white and green moss and you are satisfied with the look of your composition, start adding the pine cones laying them on top of the moss. This will give a touch of Christmas and winter to your flower arrangements, making them look beautiful.
Once you are satisfied with the result, start adding other small details according to your taste and let your creativity speak for you. Here below, some of the objects I like to use that you can find on Etsy or Ebay or again at your local florist.
dry orange slices,
small Christmas tree balls.
When you are happy with what you made, use your new gorgeous Christmas flower arrangements as center piece on your table or on top of coffee table and consoles. If you are keen in trying some more compositions, you can use amaryllis and cactus flowers, with perhaps some candles to enhance a cozy feeling.
Let your creativity flow and have fun, together with your family, decorating your home for the most magical time of the year. With these simple and quick flower compositions, the Christmas feeling will surely be with you, together with a huge satisfaction after creating your home made decorations.
