Villa in Chelmsford - Residential Certificate Project
Essex, UK (2015)
The Brief: For the final project of the Residential Certificate, we met a young family of three who just bought a land in Essex and planned a whole new moder house for their imminent growing family. We were asked to design the kitchen, living room and dining area of an open space, with a total surface of about 120 sqm with large windows overlooking the garden in the backyard. The homeowners wished for a fresh, modern and sleek style, not too sophisticated yet with a "wow" factor for their guests. The arrival of their second child, made it necessary to consider clever storage space for baby stuff, as well as the desire for a home work station.
My Response: To satisfy the wish of modern design, the kitchen was planned with cabinets "hangers-free" in white colour with a matt finish, contrasting a dark grey granite counter top. Furthermore, the kitchen's island presented a wooden table for breakfast in a peninsula shape that could host four bar chairs. The large dining area was decorated in a contemporary Scandinavian style. The living room was considered to be sunken with three steps to access and the whole seating area would be bespoke with a sofa upholstered in a durable twill fabric. The bespoke tables could also provide storage for the baby toys and a beautiful feature wall with bricks and fireplace was considered as focal point.
Skills: SketchUp, perspective sketch, technical drawing and rendering.
